My big boys solution to that whole learning to drink out of a cup thing. They are getting better at drinking out of cups. I've just been giving them barely a little swallow in a cup at meal time- whenever I remember to.
I post about food a lot it seems, but I'm really struggling right now. The boys were pretty good eaters but they get pickier everyday. If anyone has some ideas of foods I can try please send them my way. I'll post what seems to work and what ends up on the floor at our house.
Successes!
-Applesauce mixed with graham crackers or vanilla pudding and cinnamon
-Olives with ranch
-Beans of any kind -Especially pork and beans with mustard and brown sugar mixed in the sauce
-Oatmeal with brown sugar
-Poptarts
-Raisins
-Those noodles made out of vegetables
-Fruit Snacks
-PB&J sandwiches- they were really fond of PB and honey, but then I learned that they aren't supposed to have honey until they are two. Oops!
-Cereals like fruit loops, golden grahams and trix.
-Fruit smoothies
It's OK
These are all foods that they will eat off and on.
-Green Beans
-Mandarin Oranges
-Bananas
-Peas
-Animal Crackers
-Cereal like Kix and Cheerios
-Ramen noodles or chicken noodle soup with the broth drained.
-Watermelon
-Grapes
-Chicken nuggets
Ends Up on the Floor
-Cheese sandwiches and Cheese tortillas
-Lunch meat
-Avocados
-Goldfish
The worst is what they eat changes daily. One day they will eat it clean gone. The next day it will end up all over the floor. I need some fresh new ideas. I hardly know what to buy at the store anymore, and I feel like giving them candy all the time just so I don't have to sweep so much.
P.S. I did think of a way to try and get them to take cold milk. We give it to them cold, let them drink what they will and then we warm it up and see if they will take anymore.

Tomy always kills me. He's such a picky eater that when I finally find something he'll eat reliably I buy a bunch of it. It is, of course, at this time that he decides he'll never touch the stuff again. Children and food are an unpredictable pair. I guess you just keep offering food over and over whether they eat it or not. I'm pretty sure this didn't work with Tomy. I always believed that he'd eat if he was hungry - um, not so much. His ribs used to stick clear out. Luckily, somewhere along the line he learned what hungry was and stopped replacing eating with drinking water. He's much better at eating nowadays. I think our best weapon in the food eating war is Grandma. If she said it was good, it had to be true. One day Tomy sat there and ate an onion like an apple, grimacing the whole time, but he said it was good 'cuz Grandma said so. Whereas with me, everything was a power struggle. Oi!
ReplyDeleteBTW I thought it was honey after 1. I hope this is so 'cuz Hazy eats it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was 1 too. My feelings are that if it didn't hurt them then it probably is OK, but I don't know if it's a "wait so they won't produce an allergy later". Perhaps I'll still do honey here and there. They loved plus when mom has a PB&H and the boys want me to share it's really hard to say no.
ReplyDeleteWe tried the airplane game the other night to sneak some food in, and that kind of worked. And they seem to like to eat whats on our plate- even it's exactly what they threw on the floor the night before.
*Sigh* Glad it's a guessing game for everyone.
That's so funny to read. I can't imagine Jaylie eating olives or beans, but she loves anything involving cheese!
ReplyDeletejames loves hot dogs. yogurt/go-gurts. string cheese (costco's the best deal). james is good at chewing carrot sticks, but that depends on your boys. mashed potatoes, cheesy ones maybe? MAC & CHEESE! James loves pepperoni pizza. he picks off all the toppings (including the cheese) and sometimes eats the crust... :)
ReplyDeletejames has jus tlearned how to use a spoon. he still misses and things end up on the floor but he LOVES feeding himself. He tends to eat more/try more if he can feed it to himself. i think its the novelty of the spoon. maybe you should try working on using a spoon with the boys. It took a little bit (and its still messy, like i said), but its SO nice that he'll feed himself things like yogurt, applesauce, mac & cheese, cereal, etc. and he eats way more if he gets to do it too.
I was shocked when the boys turned down cheese! We even would give them those cheddar cheese sticks, and they would just drop them on the floor.
ReplyDeleteWe have worked a little with spoons. It is messy, but it does open the door to more types of food. Little H will use the spoon and his hands, but Big H thinks the spoon is so nifty he has to use it exclusively. This usually leads to him getting frustrated.
I need to try mashed potatoes. Thanks for the ideas!
